Small Works Exhibition Frequently Asked Questions
What are the advantages of a small works exhibit for PSBI? A small work takes less time for the artist to complete. We hope this will encourage even our busiest members to complete one, two, or even three small works for our exhibit. We can hang a lot of works in a small-ish space. It’s uniform and it looks great. How big is my art work supposed to be? An image that fits nicely into an 8”X8” picture plane is optimal. Leave some white space around your image. How big should be the paper be? At least 11”X11” or larger to allow for plenty of paper to go under the 2” mat. What size is the frame? 12” x 12” with a approx 2” mat What kinds of subjects work best for a small works show? We’ll talk about this at the ALL MEMBERS ZOOM MEETING. Monday March 18, 2024 7-8pm Mark your calendar. Should I do fruit or flower? Fruit, flower, vegetable, pollinator Why do I have to get a special frame? Uniformity will make the show work. The art will not have a central theme, you’ll have plenty of freedom in your choice of subject. The standard professional looking frame will be the thing that unifies the show and makes it look AWESOME! Can I buy a different frame than the one required? NOPE. You can either have PSBI order it for you, or buy your own, but it must be the same frame. Frames will be provided to members at a cost of $29 Check the Prospectus for ordering information for “Essential Natural Wood Frame Kit” complete with plexi-glass (Dick Blick Item # 18862-1904). Will Sharon really help me frame my work? Yep, you buy the frame through PSBI by adding $29 to the entry fee. President Sharon G. will have a frame and all the supplies ready to help you put it together. Sharon has years of experience as a professional framer. Is the music school nice? Very nice. What kind of artist’s reception will there be for this show? Wine & cheese reception, with live music. And an artist talk on a pertinent subject by a PSBI member TBA What can I do with my square work after the show is over? If it doesn’t sell, enter it in the American Society of Botanical Artists small works show in October 2024 at the annual convention in Pittsburgh. You’ll get some national recognition. The framing requirements for our show are exactly the same as the ASBA show. |
