2010 Philadelphia Flower show

"CELEBRATING THE ARTIST AS EXPLORER"

Sunday Feb 28th thru Sunday March 7th

Preview Saturday Feb 27th

This year we will be stressing the important role the botanical illustrator has played in the history of plant exploration. We will concentrate on plant material introduced to this country from other regions of the world. The flower show will have several large exhibits that will be devoted to celebrations around the world. They will be as follows; Carnival in Brazil, an Indian wedding celebration, the Holland bulb festival, and a New Zealand celebration. As you can see, the plants of the world are open to you.

A 10% commission on any sales will be donated to the Philadelphia area Living Beyond Breast Cancer organization.

Open to all members in good standing as of December 31, 2009

•Original, two dimensional artwork only

•No prints or giclees

•FEE $30 for one or two entries

GUIDELINES

White backgrounds only. No props such as containers. Insects or other plant material may be included as a secondary element only if they pertain directly to the life cycle of the plant. Insects MUST be rendered with scientific accuracy!

SUBJECT

Limited to botanically accurate, true color and proportion.

Work previously hung at a Philadelphia Flower Show will NOT be accepted.

REGISTER YOUR SUBJECT CHOICES!! Once again this year we ask that you let us know what subject you will be entering. This does not mean if one person is doing a tulip you can’t. If one person is doing an orange and yellow parrot tulip then you should not duplicate. But if you are painting a “Little Red Riding Hood tulip” that is permissable. We want a varied show and the judges will choose accordingly.

To register your painting choices, please either call or e-mail

DROP OFF

You should drop off your work for judging at the home of Brenda Aiken ( same location as last year–see Membership List for address) Wednesday Feb3rd between 10 am and 5 pm

If you cannot drop off your work yourself please make arrangements for someone else to deliver your work on the given day between the given hours. At drop off please be sure your work is securely placed in a bubble wrap envelope, all labels are filled out completely, and your cash or check for $30 is included.

PICK UP OF UNACCEPTED WORK

Will be Thursday, Feb 11th between 10 and 5. Once again, if you cannot pick up your work yourself please arrange for someone to pick up for you. Brenda has been gracious enough to allow us to use her home for a second year and we’d hate to inconvenience her with paintings left after pick up date or people coming on other days.

 VOLUNTEER HOURS at the SHOW

Once Again This Year We are Asking Each Person That Enters The Show to Put in Volunteer Hours at the Show! If This Is Physically Impossible Due to Health Restrictions You may Have Someone Sit in For You or Volunteer in Another Capacity.

We Also Need Someone Who Will Take Sales Phone Calls the Week of the Show and

a Crew to Help Take Down the Show the Closing Sunday Night.
