SIGN UP for YOUR TURN!

As we did last year, we will serve shifts at the Flower Show interacting with the public and demonstrating our art.

Each exhibitor is expected to serve at least one 4-hour shift.

A free entry ticket is provided for each shift taken, and you may view the rest of the show before or after your shift.

Non-exhibitors are welcome to take a shift, also.

Check the online PSBI CALENDAR for available shifts. We need two people per shift. (It is very enjoyable to share a shift with a friend, or to get to know another PSBI member better!)

To sign up for your shift, please contact

JURYING

Our jurors are professionals in the area of art, botany and exhibit design. They will be looking for work related to the theme of the show, as well as contributing to a colorful, attractive exhibit.

I addition, they have to consider how many entries will fit in the gallery space, how many of certain flowers, fuits, vegetables, and plant in certain colors they have already selected, and which will show best in combination.

In past years, many very good paintings, by excellent artists who are very active contributors to the ongoing life of PSBI, have not been accepted into the Flower Show. This happens! These artists are still expected--and have voluntarily accepted--to do their part in staffing the demonstration table and interacting with visitors to the exhibit. And after all, anyone who staffs the exhibit gets a free ticket to the show!

RULES for Flower Show ENTRY

First, you must be a member of PSBI.

Subject matter must be plants, flowers, or vegetables of the World. Think colorful! A pale white rose may not show well on the large exhibition walls.

Enter only 2-D work that is original, no collages and no gicleés.

You may enter two pieces only

Entry fee is $30 for either one or two pieces

White or off-white backgrounds only. (No black or colored background. Do not paint a white "background" on an oil or acrylic painting. Leave the ground of the canvas as it naturally is, painting only the botanical itself.)

Maximum frame size is 30"x36".

Simple (not patterned), "L-shaped" or beveled frames in gold or medium color wood, no painted frames, and no metal.

Mats should be white or off white; liner mats, if used, may be colored.

Wire neatly on the back, ready for hanging. You must use wire. No toothed metal hooks on the back of the frame.

Label information must be complete on every line. If you do not wish to sell your painting, put NFS on the price line. If there is not enough room on a label for the title or Latin name, write the info on another piece of paper, and attach it to your entry label for that piece.

In wrapping, you need to leave a 2" clearance on each side so workers can get the painting in and out of the bubble wrap easily.

Artists will be asked to work at least one 4-hr shift at the show. Artists will share a shift, so that one can demonstrate and the other can field questions, discuss sales, and talk with visitors at the other end of the exhibit space. A free ticket will be sent out for each day a shift is taken to each one who will be working a shift. Artists are encouraged to take more than one shift if able.

Artists who sell are asked to donate 10% of the selling price to Philadelphia area Living Beyond Breast Cancer organization, so set your price accordingly.
